Make a Global Difference: Apply for the ECW/UNICEF Remote M&E Internship
If you’re passionate about education, humanitarian work, and data-driven impact, this opportunity could be your pathway into global development. Education Cannot Wait (ECW), a global fund hosted by UNICEF, is currently recruiting interns to support its Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team. This internship offers a rare chance to engage directly with programmes that support children and youth affected by conflict and crisis worldwide.
Why This Internship Matters
ECW is the first multilateral global fund dedicated to providing education to children whose lives have been disrupted by emergencies such as conflict, natural disasters, or displacement. Working as an intern with the M&E team means contributing to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data that help improve education outcomes in crisis settings. For graduates who care deeply about evidence-based humanitarian work, this internship provides hands-on experience with real global impact.
About the Role
The M&E internship centers on supporting data processes, analysis, and reporting across ECW-funded programmes. Interns assist with reviewing and coding qualitative and quantitative information from multiple countries, cleaning and organizing datasets, and contributing to the production of ECW’s Annual Results Report. Tasks may include drafting data summaries, synthesizing progress information, and ensuring the overall quality of incoming programme reports.
Interns may also be assigned a portfolio of countries or programmes depending on their language skills or areas of academic interest. This provides meaningful exposure to the realities of humanitarian education work, from programme indicators to field-level reporting challenges.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and either currently enrolled in a Master’s programme or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree within the last three years. Ideal academic backgrounds include education, humanitarian studies, international development, social sciences, public policy, or related fields.
Because this internship focuses heavily on monitoring and evaluation, applicants should have strong analytic skills—including data cleaning, statistics, qualitative analysis, or familiarity with tools such as Excel, STATA, R, Power Query, or Kobo. Strong written communication skills are important, as interns will help draft portions of reports and synthesize complex material clearly.
Fluency in English is required, while additional languages, especially French or Spanish, are considered an advantage.
Duration, Stipend & Work Setup
The internship runs for five to six months, with a preferred start in early 2026. It is full-time, at 35 hours per week, though working hours can be adapted slightly around academic commitments. The position is remote, with interns expected to work according to Geneva/CET working hours. In some cases, office space may be available in Geneva or New York.
Interns receive a monthly stipend, with the amount depending on duty station. Remote interns typically receive a stipend equivalent to 70% of the local baseline salary for early-career support roles.

Why This Opportunity Is Especially Valuable
This internship offers more than just experience—it provides a chance to meaningfully support global education in crisis contexts. Interns gain professional exposure to humanitarian work, monitoring and evaluation systems, and international collaboration. The role is particularly accessible for applicants from low- or middle-income countries, thanks to its remote option and stipend support.
Beyond the technical skills, interns gain insight into how data and evidence guide funding decisions, programme adaptation, and organizational learning—a foundation that is highly valuable for careers in global development, policy, or research.
