About the Position
As a Research Assistant in Digital Heritage Imaging, at the University of Augsburg, you will work within the Chair of Image Processing and Visualization in the Digital Humanities. This role combines research, teaching support, and project planning. It also provides an opportunity to design your own doctoral project in collaboration with the research group.
The research focus of the group includes imaging techniques, computer-aided image processing, visualization methods, and image-based modelling. This creates a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment involving fields such as history, archaeology, environmental sciences, and computer science.
Key Responsibilities
In this role you will be expected to:
- Contribute to teaching and research in digital imaging and analysis of cultural heritage
- Design a doctoral project proposal linked to the research group
- Apply for external funding with support from the team
- Help plan and organise courses and examinations within relevant degree programmes
- Teach up to three contact hours per week during semester periods
- Support student counselling and handle administrative tasks when needed

Who Should Apply (Eligibility)

- A completed Master’s degree in relevant fields such as digital humanities, archaeology, history, art history, geomatics, or computer science
- Interest in image-based recording and cultural heritage analysis
- Methodological experience in at least one of the following: image processing, GIS, or remote sensing
- Basic programming skills, especially in Python, are desirable
- Good written and spoken communication skills in English and German
- Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary international team
If you currently have limited German language skills, the University of Augsburg expects you to work towards a B2 level within two years of employment.
