If you are an engineer passionate about optimizing processes, solving complex operational challenges, and contributing to a mission-driven organization, this opportunity offers both professional growth and meaningful impact.

Role Overview

The Process Engineer will lead continuous improvement initiatives within M-KOPA’s phone production environment. This includes evaluating existing processes, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing solutions to ensure consistent product quality and smooth operations. Working closely with cross-functional teams—such as Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Supply Chain—you will support the rollout of new products, refine production workflows, and create standards that ensure sustainable, high-performing systems.

This role requires hands-on involvement on the production floor and a strong ability to analyze data, identify root causes of failures, and develop practical improvements.

Key Responsibilities

As a Process Engineer at M-KOPA, you will be responsible for:

1. Process Analysis & Optimization

  • Conduct time studies, line balancing, and workflow assessments to improve efficiency.
  • Map out existing production processes and identify bottlenecks or resource constraints.
  • Propose and implement optimization strategies to enhance throughput and reduce downtime.

2. Quality Improvement & Defect Reduction

  • Perform detailed defect and failure analysis on devices processed in the refurbishment and repair lines.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to enforce high standards and reduce rework rates.

3. Documentation & Standardization

  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure that all production staff are trained on established procedures and that documentation is consistently updated when processes evolve.

4. New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Prepare the production environment for new smartphone models or product variations.
  • Coordinate equipment selection, calibration, line configuration, and staff upskilling.
  • Conduct pilot runs and ensure that all NPI requirements are met before full-scale rollout.

5. Team Support & Training

  • Coach production operators, technicians, and junior engineers on processes and best practices.
  • Provide technical support to the production team during troubleshooting or process deviations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

6. Continuous Improvement Initiatives

  • Champion programs and other lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Lead cross-departmental sessions to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Implement systems that enhance efficiency, safety, and product quality.

Ideal Candidate Profile

To thrive in this role, an applicant should have a strong mix of academic foundation, practical technical skills, and analytical capability. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation & Control, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in electronics manufacturing, smartphone repair, or high-volume production environments.
  • Comfort reading technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, especially in diagnosing process inefficiencies and technical issues.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement tools, 6S/Kaizen, and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A hands-on attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments.
